Sensory Processing: Personal Care & Hygiene Video
The idea was to create a training video for careers of those that have a deficiency with sensory processing. The Concept of our Personal hygiene and care video was to have a 5-10 minute video in a tutorial style that shows you how to overcome an issue that the young person may be facing by showing and suggesting ways to solve that issue through the use of acting out said resolves, giving a visual element to one’s understanding and learning so that they know exactly what to do with each issues so that there is no confusion as you can see what is being done and how it is being done.
In order to develop and flesh out the concept of our informative video I researched the difficulties that one may face when carrying out personal hygiene and care routines and what can be done to make the process easier for a person with sensory processing difficulties in order to create a shooting script. For example, difficulties with brushing your teeth and how to resolve it. One way to do this is to have the Career place their hand over theirs in order to encourage independence, avoid brushing the gums, don’t brush too far back, use a soft bristle tooth brush and use a mild flavour toothpaste to reduce the difficulties of gaging, smell and anxiety of close proximity of the tooth brush.
Shanice and myself filmed the video in our bathroom using only a tripod and a single DSLR cannon camera, using diffident angles to capture multiple sides of a personal hygiene career tutorial to demonstrate a personal hygiene routine for someone with sensory processing, in order to do this we used props such as a book to distract yourself whilst toileting, different types of hair brushes to brush your hair, a selection of sponges and flannels to wash your body with, bath toys, no tear body wash 2 in 1 shampoo and conditions and so on to suggest ways to tackle difficulties. My self being the career and Shanice being the child with sensory processing difficulties helped and aided her throughout with giving countdown to tasks within the routine, setting timers, flushing toilets, running the bath, turning the shower on, playing soothing music and making sure she is comfortable.
After the filming was complete in was time to edit the clips we had filmed I tasked myself if trifling through the clips and compiling them all together to compose a routine from start to finish.
